Dark Circles

Intro – Dark circles, also known as periorbital dark circles, refer to the appearance of darker pigmentation or discolouration around the eyes. They can make the skin around the eyes look tired, aged, and less vibrant. Dark circles can affect people of all ages and are a common cosmetic concern.

Causes

  • Thin Skin: The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate than the skin on other parts of the body. Thinner skin can make blood vessels and underlying structures more visible, leading to a dark appearance.
  • Blood Vessel Congestion: Blood vessels beneath the skin can become congested or dilated, leading to increased visibility and a darker appearance.
  • Allergies: Allergic reactions can cause inflammation and swelling, which can make the blood vessels more noticeable and contribute to dark circles.
  • Lack of Sleep: Sleep deprivation can cause the skin to appear paler, making blood vessels and underlying tissues more visible and resulting in dark circles.
  • Fatigue and Stress: Chronic stress and fatigue can contribute to the development of dark circles.
