Hair Loss

Intro – Hair loss, also known as alopecia, refers to the partial or complete loss of hair from the scalp or other parts of the body where hair normally grows. It can be temporary or permanent and can result from various factors. Hair loss is a common concern that can affect both men and women.

Causes

  • Medical Conditions: Certain medical conditions and diseases can cause hair loss, including thyroid disorders, autoimmune diseases (e.g., alopecia areata), and scalp infections.
  • Medications and Treatments: Hair loss can be a side effect of certain medications, such as chemotherapy drugs, anticoagulants, beta-blockers, and retinoids. Radiation therapy to the head can also cause hair loss in the treated area.
  • Nutritional Deficiencies: Inadequate intake of certain nutrients, such as iron, zinc, vitamin D, and biotin, can contribute to hair loss.
  • Poor Hair Care Practices: Excessive use of harsh hair treatments, tight hairstyles (like braids and ponytails), and heat styling tools can damage the hair and contribute to hair loss.
  • Chemical Exposure: Exposure to harsh chemicals, such as those in hair dyes, relaxers, and styling products, can damage the hair and scalp, leading to hair loss.
