Intro – Dandruff is a common scalp condition characterised by the presence of small, white or yellowish flakes of dead skin that are shed from the scalp and often become visible on the hair and clothing. While dandruff is not usually a serious medical condition, it can be bothersome and lead to itching and discomfort. Dandruff can occur in people of all ages.
Causes
- Dry Scalp: Dry scalp occurs when the skin on the scalp lacks sufficient moisture, leading to flaking and shedding of dead skin cells. Cold weather, frequent washing with harsh shampoos, and hot water can contribute to dry scalp.
- Sensitivity to Hair Care Products: Some hair care products, such as shampoos, conditioners, and styling products, can contain harsh ingredients that irritate the scalp and contribute to dandruff.
- Oily Scalp: Excess oil production on the scalp can create an environment conducive to the growth of yeast and the development of dandruff.
- Not Shampooing Enough: Infrequent shampooing or inadequate cleansing of the scalp can lead to the accumulation of dead skin cells and oils, promoting dandruff.
